“I think what’s so beautiful and wonderful about Revolution Books is that even when you close your eyes and go to any of the shelves here and pick any one of the books, it is likely that it will contain the kind of dreams that Martin Carter was talking about when he said, ‘And so if you see me looking in your hand, listening when you speak, marching in your ranks, you must know, I do not sleep to dream, but dream to change the world.’”
— NGÜGÏ WA THIONG’O novelist, playwright, literary theorist

“This is the place and people I have dreamed of my entire life – a REVOLUTIONARY people who share an incomparable love of humanity and a scientific method and approach to the kind of society we must, should and can have… the ONLY place where these are truly considered and applied.”
— LUCIA GRILLO actor, filmmaker

“…[Revolution Books] means a great deal to me, and I am one of many people who are concerned about what’s happening to it…”
— EDWIDGE DANTICAT writer

“In traveling around the country for readings at bookstores, it has become evident that Revolution Books presents a whole diff erent level of engagement. I have learned much from the audiences here…”

Cannot Lose
Revolution
Books

When you look out into the world today, you are faced with countless horrors. The lives of Black and Latino youth are foreclosed, as millions are sent to waste away in prison through mass incarceration. Everywhere you turn, women are ground up, beaten down and degraded in a world where yes, all women, face the reality of rape, abuse and violence on a daily basis. We live in a society with massive government spying, endless wars for empire, torture and drone murders. The planet itself is on the brink of environmental catastrophe, and everywhere from India to Nigeria to Manhattan, people are living on the desperate edge.

The need for a radically different, liberating world is an emergency – and yet, consideration of a solution commensurate with the scale and depth of the problem is barely regarded as a legitimate topic for serious conversation. It is for THIS reason that Revolution Books is so urgently needed, and why Revolution Books needs your support now, today:  not only to keep its doors open but to grow as a widely known and visited center of a movement for revolution, the place where people find the books and the deep engagement about why the world is the way it is and the possibility of a profoundly different world.

readingAt the core of Revolution Books is a new synthesis of communism developed by Bob Avakian based on summing up the positive and negative experience of the communist revolution so far and drawing from a broad range of human experience. This new conception presents a viable vision and a strategy for a radically new and much better society that is overcoming all the inequities of the current order while giving great scope to intellectual work, ferment, and dissent as integral to the emancipation of humanity.

Right now Revolution Books is renting month to month at below market rent. That is, Revolution Books could find itself homeless on very short notice. Sales continue to grow as more and more people discover this precious resource. But sales alone will not sustain our future in a location accessible to the whole metropolitan area.

We are determined that Revolution Books will NOT be the next in the long list of important bookstores in New York that are tragically disappearing from the scene. But YOUR determination is critical. To keep this vital resource open, accessible, and able to meet the political challenge facing humanity and the planet, Revolution Books needs to raise $125,000 beyond its current income stream.

The goals of our funding plan are to guarantee a physical location for a multi-year term and to greatly expand our influence and outreach so that the store can truly become a center for a growing movement for revolution.

Already a number of well-known authors and artists have already stepped forward to support Revolution Books. These include Cornel West, Junot Díaz, Edwidge Danticat, Eve Ensler, Ngügï wa Thiong’o, Arturo O’Farrill, David Harvey, Walter Mosley, and Lewis Lapham.

toteJoin them. Make a real difference: Your generous donation will sustain and project this acutely-needed bookstore as the center for debate and engagement over why the world is the way it is, and how it really could be.

Humanity needs revolution.
Revolution needs Revolution Books.
Revolution Books needs you.
