He then went on to develop as a solo performer with a wide spectrum of artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, The Fort Apache Band, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis, and in 2002, Mr. O'Farrill created the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra (ALJO) for Jazz at Lincoln Center due to a large body of music in the genre of Latin and Afro Cuban Jazz that deserves to be much more widely appreciated. The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra's first three albums were each nominated for Grammy Awards.

Arturo O'Farrill and ALJO's new album: "The Offense of the Drum" debuted May 10, 2014 at the Apollo Theater.

azAndy Zee is the spokesperson for Revolution Books and is an advocate for the new synthesis of communism developed by Bob Avakian. Andy Zee has hosted conversations with Eve Ensler, Edwidge Danticat, Lewis Lapham, Walter Mosley, Wallace Shawn and many more.

This conversation with Arturo O'Farrill on May 20 will benefit Revolution Books. The bookstore must raise serious funds now to secure a new lease. At a time when the planet and its people face emergency, Revolution Books is needed more than ever. It is a place where people find the books and the deep engagement about why the world is the way it is and the possibility of a radically different world. Scientific and poetic, wrangling and visionary, Revolution Books is at the center of building a movement for revolution.

Humanity needs revolution. Revolution needs Revolution Books. Revolution Books needs you.
